A few bloom pictures from my backyard orchard today

Same here Scott, it is 65 degrees tomorrow. I will be unwrap all the Kaki persimmons and planting some new persimmon hybrids and non-astringent Kaki like Casandra, JT-02, and Chinebuli. I also got 6 Jujube root cuttings that I started last Spring to put in the ground for May Bark grafts.

Yikes! That’s not good!

Here’s my nectarines frozen by three consecutive nights of 22, 30, and 24F. Fruits on open blossoms are dead. Likely a few survivors not yet open.

Here’s a tree just feet away that I protected with blankets and a 60W bulb. No damage to fruits that I can see and it’s pretty easy to tell.

Oh Alcedo, quelle domage! :joy:

Tony,
Do you unwrap all layers at once or one layer and wait a day or two for the next layer? It will be warmer here tomorrow and 50’s on Sun.

Just do not want my persimmon to get shocked if it goes down the the 20-30 again.

This guy uses 7 watt Christmas bulbs strung along the branches of his Meyer lemon in order to grow them outside year 'roound in Canada. He has done it for many years even through arctic dips. Maybe this idea would help someone in the future.

Mamuang,

I got home from work a little early today and the temp was 50 degrees and I took out the light bulbs and electronical cords and unwrapped all the persimmon trees. We got down to -5F for several nights this year that was all. All the branches are green with a scratch test, flexible, and healthy. I should get a nice crops this year. I don’t think you have to worry about the temp fip down to the 20’s. Your Nikita’s Gift will be safe as long as the temp does not drops below zero.

So much for my tree in my dining room! You just blew that out the door! Wow!

MrsG,
It gets just a little colder here than the coldest temps he was having. Whenever I get a Meyer Lemon, I think I’ll do the dining room thing like you do. Just not a risk taker with trees. I lost a Curry Leaf tree (that was covered and inside my high tunnel - no lights) to cold. Got another and now I bring it in.

Mine don’t even compare to a lot of the trees pictured here, but Scott wrote to keep them coming.I moved the potted stone fruit trees into the greenhouse at work, about a week ago.The temps were warming to the low 60’s,which meant to about 80F inside and they are popping.Right now, this area is about one month ahead in highs and lows from historical averages Brady

Anne its is really fun to grow fruit where they should not be growing, thats all! And to get a small enough crop to cook with, you just can’t beat the fresh taste. Great isn’t it?

Thank you so much for these photographs. I love the ‘prickly pear’ in the background. Amazing! A nice amount of trees too!
