You know, it might not be. This is the first year I’ve gotten to pick more than one. I might have gotten a bit excited.
They get darker right? It popped off easily into my hand and I didn’t see any green in the background. It wasn’t as good as last year though. I did pick another one that definitely didn’t taste ripe yet (still wasn’t bad).
That Williams Pride looks about right although its all up to the individual as to when to pick. It being a mac type apple its always going to be red on green all the way through to picking. If you let it get dark or purple it will most likely be soft.
Great apple at that time for fresh juice.
WP is one of our earliest apples for market, second only behind Pristine, but we pick them a hair early as the customers HAVE to have them crisp.
Its definitely an apple that some experience picking and biting into a few will tell you which ones you want.
We gave up on offering our WP trees for the u pick as the inexperienced customer goes home with a lot of bad apples.
I will repost the photos of my Monark apples. They are very good apples especially being early apples. Nice and crisp and pretty juicy. They last , for me, at least a month before they start to get softer. I try and use them or freeze them before they get to soft to enjoy.
The Monark is one of the best early apples I have ever tasted. I would say THE best early apple but there are a few early apples I have not tried yet. So many other early apples last a very, very short time once they are picked. I do not like soft and soft mealy apples.
Here are some of my Golden Supreme apples. I am not for sure if you consider this an early apple since this one ripens late August. I consider it an early apple considering most others ripen late September/Oct and some in November. It is supposed to be an all purpose apple. It is a very juicy and refreshing apple. The ones that have a reddish blush are sweeter than the others , even the more yellow ones. Still a very nice apple all in all.
LOTS of apples on this tree this year. These are probably 1/4 of what is on the tree this year. These photos shows about half of what I picked so far. There are more on the tree and I am trying to let them stay on the tree to get sweeter. Most of the ones on the photo are ones that have dropped.
