3 out of 4 of the farms i buy direct from every year are also shutting down due to the increase of hurricanes and terrible weather as well.
The 4th is only still in business because they add into their products by buying from oversea growers. None of my farms were able to ship me my special mangos this year because there wasn’t a harvest to ship

If you haven’t noticed the Ashville hurricane was man-made, and so are most of the big Florida hurricanes too.
I think that will end soon. And the chemicals causing the “infectious” diseases too!
If only faith was adequate. I was raised in Topanga Canyon which borders Pacific Palisades and lived through many fires, but the winds buffeting this one far exceed the power of anything that has happened since CA became a state. The destruction is horrific and equally historic.
I will not live to see a return to a safer climate or to see Florida real estate values rebound (home insurers are leaving the state). Now I wonder what fire insurance will cost in the near future in the most valuable land in our country- coastal CA, and who will be able to afford it. Beyoncé built her palace next door to my last CA address. A drop in her property value won’t hurt her much.
I won’t take this to its politics, this forum is not for venting there. I will vent elsewhere for the betrayal that has led us here.
Of course there is hope, but this isn’t an especially hopeful moment.

Her C and W stylizations exceed anyone in Memphis in complex rhythmic phrasing and probably vocal range. I can see why some are frightened by her, imagine having to compete with that level of musical technical ability. The link will show you that she can convey strong emotion when she wants.

I drove all over and around Ft. Meyers last year and the orange trees looked horrible. Groves still in production with maybe half of the trees dead. Lots of abandoned groves being bulldozed for development. My wife grew up down there and it was hard for her to look at.
It would be nice if they let some of those old groves revert to the sawgrass swamps they once were- but Florida doesn’t work like that. It’s all going to housing. With insurance costs down there being out of control it’s a disaster waiting to happen as tons of people who buy these houses won’t be able to afford insurance in the long term.
This wasn’t in Florida but I’m Colorado alone earlier this year, my insurance went up 70% and I’ve heard they’re getting even more expensive due to the increase in hail for Colorado Springs in 2023 alone.
I had to fish my old emails to pull this up. We got a new roof through insurance after this because of the hail damage but dam.
Can only imagine how much it costs in Florida with the hurricanes being more frequent than ever it seems.
Also for 1 car in Colorado vs Washington state, our insurance went from 121 in Washington to 300 something as soon as we changed our address. And this is without accidents or traffic violations but simply for a change of address. You have a 1 in 4 chance of someone running a stop sign in Colorado Springs
I wanted to move up Florida or Texas but after looking at the weather there… I decided to pull everyone back to Washington state. I drove myself and my 1.5 year old with 2 giant dogs nonstop just to get out of Colorado as soon as I could. My husband drove the 40ft uhaul behind us but still i can’t imagine wanting a home knowing that you’re either going to flood or get hit by severe winds at least once a year.
Also our roof was not even 5 years old at the time of the email. It was redone in 2018 or 2019 due to the massive baseball sized hail storm that came through or so I’ve told.

Yeah up there they only get GIANT earthquakes and MEGA tsunamis. If a side of Hawaii collapsed into the water (which is does very regularly on the geologic scale) there would be ocean water washing 50 miles inland and up to 700’ in elevation

Last time we got a big earthquake was back in 1999 or something. Don’t remember but it’s not often enough to worry about at all. I think the media fear mongers that one to keep people away and I’m okay with it haha.
Thankfully, I’m east of i-5 and at a decent elevation comparatively to everything else.
One big earthquake every few decades even, doesn’t compare to 5-30 minutes of golfball sized hail at least 3 times year or 3 mega hurricanes. Plus too many billionaires live in Washington state. I doubt they would allow mother nature to mother nature too hard without calling in HAARP for a favor to keep things away somehow lol

There are various programs using different techniques, but I don’t think any of them are near enough to commercialization to be useful to most growers right now.
