Advise on planting an Alphonso Mango tree

I bought a small Alphonso mango tree and wanted advice on a few things before planting it

  1. It’s already autumn here, so not sure if I should plant the tree into a larger pot until the spring, or if I can plant it directly in the ground and cover with a frost blanket in winter. We do get frost in winter and temperatures can drop to as low as - 3C (26f) at its coldest. Does not often go below 30f though.

  2. In terms of spacing, I was thinking of planting it about 3 meters away from a dwarf pinkerton avocado tree (center to center of each tree) . Will this be sufficient?

  3. Any other considerations I should be aware of, given my situation?

N.B. An option would also to be to plant in a corner of the yard and build a sort of greenhouse structure over it. Possibly housing 2 mango trees… But this would be the alternate option, if it’s not going to be possible to keep it out in the open in my climate
