All about succulents and cactus

I thought I would start a new topic about succulents and cactus as we enter winter. I have several and really enjoy watching them grow. This is a picture of a jelly bean succulent (not sure of proper title). It had so many roots shooting out that I thought it looked cool.

My friends found this cactus in a ditch in San Diego and have grown in a pot in North Carolina for decades. They gave me a 4 inch tall offshoot of their 2 foot mother plant and told me it has magnificent flowers. A couple of months later it bloomed for the first time - a dime-sized yellow flower on the top. Calling this modest little flower “magnificent” was a stretch, but I thought maybe it would be impressive if the whole cactus were covered in them. This spring it produced three flower buds on the sides of the cactus. One bud finally bloomed yesterday and it was certainly magnificent! My friends had never seen the small yellow flowers on their plant before. Is that typical of cactii to have two types of flowers?
