All Things Strawberry

Thank you, @Melon I did find this article online that agrees with you and we are going to grow some daughters of San Andreas for his sister.

Also, my husband spotted a wild strawberry throwing out a runner, so he put a little pot there, in hopes of capturing it.

No internet info on this one that i can find… legit nursery that i have bought from before…so i guess i will give them a try.

i just put in 10 alpine straws in a raised bed i grew from seed from the strawberry seed store. they are the yellow pineapple crush and red reine des vallee . i have other cultivars from them growing around my other trees and bushes. they are very productive with no care so with these improved cultivars in good soil with mulch they should be even more productive. they are small but big compared to improved wild ones that i also grow from them that have spread everywhere in the yard. if you want a wild flavored commercially producing strawberry. i highly recommened you grow these. they also dont send runners. they will get about 18in. wide as they age. then just divide the plants and start a new bed. that will rejuvinate the mother plants. berries are about a in. long and 3/4in.wide with plenty on the plant by the 2nd season. my original ones were planted 5 yrs ago and so far havent had to be rejuvinated. my 2.5 yr. old grand daughter loves them. ive yet to see any disease that affects them. berries form up on stalks off the ground so no mold issues. cant say the same with the big straws here. they are everbearing producing from mid june until frost.

do you notice a strong difference in flavor between the two varieties?

Those people on Amazon also sell fake varieties too

Any tips for renovating June bearers? We grow in a solid patch, and never used to do anything. Last year we mowed it in late July, and we seemed to have a nice quantity of berries this year. How do you know which plants to thin out after you’ve mowed? Does mowing them like that make it weedier the next year, or is that my imagination?

They sell on Amazon, Walmart, Ebay, Etsy and have their own website and are on all the social media platforms. I did a thorough search of all their products and this is the only one that they chose to ‘fake’ as far as i can tell.

10 plants for $16 with free shipping isnt too much of a gamble… but again i have no idea why they would sell a ‘fake’ one when they sell all kinds of named varieties… but i guess its possible.

the pineapple crush definitely has pineapple notes to it. both are very good.

They use a ton of a.i. created images as well for a lot of their stuff. I saw an a.i. grenades dwarf “blackberry tree” the other day advertised from them

Also a lot of their photos are stolen with little to no originals from what i can see.

And this :face_with_spiral_eyes: lol. Struggle buss…

I heard they said they’re an “e-commerce” and not a nursery? I wonder if they dropship from various sellers and nurseries.

my little wild strawberries have made a lot of little berries finally. my bigger ones the quinault have now got a handful on them, so it’s a start compared to previous years.

I’m moving them to the asparagus patch now where they’ll get a little more sun and less interference, I need to get another straw bale to last through until the fall though I’m running low on it.

An observation to put out there in case it helps anyone: the strawberries on my full sun, scorching hot deck are doing great. I was really worried and planned to put shade covers on them, but they’re all thriving and I haven’t touched the toll of shade cover. From left to right is Flavorfest, Albion and earliglow. I was most worried about flavorfest since it’s supposedly only heat tolerant to 7 and the others are 8, but it’s actually growing the best now that it got hot. They also haven’t been watered since the beginning of April because we’ve had so much rain. But, even with the two 4 day recent stretches of 95+ and no rain, they didn’t need watering. The structures are pressure treated 2x12” for the base with 2x4s on the bottom and raised off the deck by 4 2x2s and then 2x6s second and third tier. Everything except the 2x12s were repurposed from a vegetable garden we deconstructed. I mixed coir, compost, pine nugget, perlite and vermiculite for the soil (and some nutrient amendments like kelp and alfalfa) and it’s retaining moisture yet managing not to rot or become diseased. Awkward picture from above.
