Jujube, Persimmon and Figs (planted 2024, figs started from cutting winter 2024)

Lang Jujube

Nikita’s Gift Persimmon (we grew one to 4 years old at our last property also zone 6b)

Ichi Ki Kei Jiro Persimmon (pushing it zone wise for us 6b, have it in a protected area so we will see…)

A variety of figs. All grown from cuttings this winter. Planted in 10 gallon pots and will bring into the garage. We got figs from all 16 trees this year!

I have both the Contender and Redhaven peach trees in my orchard. They both do well here in our area. The only issue is that when the blooms are out or close to coming out we can get a freeze or frost. I have had the trees loaded with beautiful blossoms…then zap…here comes the frost or freeze. Then no peaches for that year.
I had a bumper crop of peaches this year. Smaller than normal because of the lack of rain. They were still delicious. Plenty to make preserves and give away to friends and neighbors. The last time we had a decent amount of peaches was in 2021. So it is hit or miss here around me. You are close enough that you may get the same issue or you may be just a little further south enough to get away with getting better luck with more peach years. No store bough peach can match home grown peaches.

Thanks for passing along the knowledge. I’m sure my Japanese plums and apricots will be even worse but hopefully a harvest every few years! :crossed_fingers:

I had a plum tree at my last house and it always had some plums on it. IF I could keep the squirrels from taking a bite out of them and leaving them. A good tasting plum is hard to beat.
Even if you get some every few years they will taste better than anything bought from the store.
Good luck.

Been a while since posting but thought some of you might enjoy our latest video. I progressively filmed the pruning of one of our apple trees (Enterprise) which we planted in April of 2023. The video follows the tree so you can see how the pruning that was done early on affects the tree as it matures. -Peter

Good video and nice descriptions as to why you are doing each pruning. Thanks for posting it. Nice work.

I really like the music you had at the end of the video. I tried using Shazam to find the song but it could not pick it up though. Is it a standard song by an artist?

Thanks Mike! The music at the end is actually AI generated. Don’t really like the use of generative AI in general, but it’s nice to create background music that doesn’t get flagged for copyright infringement.

So true about not worrying about copyright infringement. That’s a big ol mess you do not want to get involved with. Nice music though, good work.
