And here comes the freeze

I would

That’s the tricky part with KDL and I presume with Kocide too.
With KDL, I was warned to make sure I balanced the PH at between
6.5-7, and to apply with a fine mist spray, a limited amount( No run off)
and if I had left over product, to not respray, just dispose. This stuff can
be toxic to the plant, if over applied. After reading the Kocide lable, I
presume the same caveat applies to it. It also states that it only works
on mild frosts, and is not to be used for anything beyond that.

My old bones are not feeling 100% today (fever/chills/good stuff)… not sure if i’m even going to cover anything. Wind has been hurricane force all afternoon. Maybe if i feel better i’ll gt out there and cover some stuff later tonight…ugh…

Hope you feel better! I know what you mean about that wind. If its just cold I don’t mind bundling up and working outside, but that wind makes me want to sit inside and be a couch potato

Yeah. Its still blowing very hard and i see snowflakes. I might just protect a couple of the small ones or try.

Had that stuff about a week ago and it is one nasty bug. It looks more like winter here with all the new snow on the ground and they are not sure how much more is coming over the weekend and especially Sun when we could get another snow storm ! And yes it is getting to the time of the year even here that it should be warming up and raining instead of snowing !

Not fun. I had my little one here all day (4) and he played very well with me being sick, so that was nice.

Tried to cover stuff. Sheets will probably be in the neighbors yard by the morning. Calling for 24F> My cots are swollen purple, but not showing any white so maybe they’ll be ok. We’ll found out in a week or so.

Well, it is official. I’m that crazy neighbor who covers his trees with plastic to avoid a freeze.

It is already 31 degrees here… and the wind is still up.

I also put in a bucket of hot water in each before sealing them up.

I think we are all that crazy neighbor. You know what though. We will all be that crazy neighbor eating fresh tree ripened fruit. I’m ok with that

Hey…yours look good. Nothing to worry about there. I think i’m at 28F… This is why i grow so much in containers. My trees in the garage are all happy and snug.

I put a light under one of mine. I love having blankets that aren’t long enough. I was using clothes pins to connect them. My one peach sits right up next to the house, so i think that one should be a little better off.

I’m sitting here at the orchard in 2 in the morning because the nws issued a frost warning tonight. The crop loss has already been significant, from previous frosts. I’m
doing my best to minimize additionaloss.

After considerable effort, we put together a 3pt. platform to hold 3 large torpedo heaters and two generators to run them, behind the tractor.

7 o’clock is supposed to be the low according to accuweather, but I hope I don’t have to run them.

Most of the forecasters have backed off the lows a little bit.

It is a very clear night with a very low dew point, but temps are good so far and there is some wind. Only 4 or 5 more hours till the low.

As I sit here I feel like I’m wasting my time but the last time the nws issued a frost warning it got down to 24 here, when they predicted the low of about 30.

Looks like tonight will be different.

Beautiful starry night btw.

I hope it is, and that it doesn’t drop nearly as low as anticipated.

Beautiful, but sometimes a thick cloud cover would be a more welcome sight.

Good luck tonight. I hope it winds up that your vigilance wasn’t necessary.

Thanks Muddy. Nice to see someone else is up.

As crazy as it sounds, maybe a movable caterpillar tunnel would be an idea? The tunnel has wheels that ride on the conduit laid on the ground so you can slide the tunnel down the row and start growing. At least you could cover some trees, run the heater in there for a while, slide it down and repeat. Johhny’s seed had a good video of them using it, but cant seem to locate it.
Having to wait another year with for a harvest…well that just sucks,

Hey oplea I’m still up also. It’s 32 at my house and I’m hitting the sack. I hope it stays there for both of us.

It hasn’t hit 32 here yet, but getting closer. I think I fell asleep for a little while, lol.

Olpea,
Hope you can save your crop.

For us, it will be tonight, Sat night, that will be the lowest of the week, projected at 23 F.
