Anna apple bruised?

I’d like help identifying what’s up with some fruit on my Anna apple tree. DWN tree, planted 1.5 years ago, I’m in San Diego, CA. Some fruit appears to be bruised from being dropped, but are still on the tree. The damage is on the bottom of the fruit and up the side on some. Otherwise these apples appear to be without issue. TIA.

Watercore, a physiological issue; see https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/horticulture/pomes/pests-etc/watercore-of-apples

Thanks! This appears to be the case on reading the text and some others. I did thin fruit excessively and waited to pick… both can lead to watercore. SOO glad it is not fungal related!

This happens quite often with Anna if you pick too late. I just picked the last of my apples and had a few like that. I am making sauce so I still use them. Anna make a great applesauce!
