Quite a few of you are on pins and needles about this weather. So I thought I’d get started with the damage reports.
It was 70 yesterday briefly 26 last night and 70 again today. My nectarines in full bloom had just a few frozen blossoms. Less than the 10% limit sometimes posted at that temperature and stage. I didn’t protect anything because they were predicting 32F.
The chart suggests I should possibly have had more damage than I did. But given the vagaries of temperature measurement and the fact that the cold was unusually brief I’d say the chart was spot on.
Oh dear Would you believe we have an official frost warning again, this evening? Don’t think it got below 38 or 39 at my house last night. Currently, it’s 52 degrees at 5:20 pm, so I doubt we’ll see freezing temps again tonight, either, here at my place. My papaya appears to have weathered last night just fine. No issues with blossoms down in my cold area either that I can see. But, I know others are looking at temps in the 20’s this evening, with stuff already in bloom.
I had 29 and 30 the last 2 nights and my Flavor Delight blooms look okay. I’ve read it’s self fruitful so hopefully that’s true because I have nothing else blooming right now although Robada is the next closest and should pop this week.
