Just wondering if anybody has ever ordered from Jung Seed before and if you were happy with product and service? They have some berries and such I thought about ordering.
Jung Seeds = R. H. Shumway Seeds.
One company needing two names and two website portals is strange to me. I guess they don’t want to alienate their customers by changing to just one name.
I’ve got seed from them before. Good service and seed. I think they have several different seed cos. working out of that address. I have a catalog from each of them.
I ordered a toka plum from them late last spring because they were the only site I could find that had one left. It was about 1/2" caliber, a little smaller than I usually get from others (raintree, grandpa’s orchard, cummins, etc…) but otherwise it was fine. I planted it it very late in the spring and it is doing well.
I guess that doesnt surprise me about multiple companies operating under one name the catalog was fairly large and diverse products.
have ordered seeds from them but don’t remember what. What am sure of is that i don’t remember anything bad about the transaction
Did they tell you the Toka’s understock?
We drive by a Jung Seeds on the way out of Madison, WI every time we go up to visit friends. I point it out to my wife that we should stop and she rolls her eyes at me and asks where we would fit a tree in our Escape.
I think they have several bricks-and-mortar stores in Wisconsin.
I’ve purchased stuff from them a couple times a few years ago.Difficult to get things at the time, like the Razz Blueberry.
Nothing was out of the ordinary. To me,they are like Gurneys.
I even received their new catalog the other day.Brady
No. It’s possible it was on the tag, which might still be on the tree, but I don’t think so.
I’ve been ordering from them for 49 years now. They aren’t quite like they were years ago, but I wouldn’t be afraid to order from them. If anything isn’t right, they will honor their guarantee and replace it cheerfully.
They sell by size (standard apple, dwarf, mini-dwarf…) but do not mention rootstock in most cases. A more local and slightly more expensive gurneys badically
you were ordering from them ~27 years before the world wide web went commercial, and then 22 yrs thereafter.
that is the ultimate stamp of approval
I used to live about 10 miles from the Jung’s on the north side of Sun Prairie. Their brick and mortar stores provide completely different bareroot stock than you get from mail/internet ordering. Very high quality stock in store and I wouldn’t hesitate to stop and buy something when their bareroot room is open in spring.
I miss those days, when people actually wrote letters.
it has been mentioned that the younger generations have considerably weaker grips. Tapping/swiping touchscreens apparently does not build muscles.
The world changes so fast!
Oh and to stay on Subject I often hear Jung mentioned on the Wisconsin public radio garden show. A good show, useful to me being in a neighboring state and all.
I’ve ordered a variety of things from them over the years. Seeds, rose bushes, strawberry and raspberry plants, and last year an ornamental shrub and a cherry tree (Supermont). I think Jung’s is a great place to shop if you want a variety of things but just want to order from one place. They’re not going to compare quite with a company that specializes in something (like berry plants) but they aren’t bad and I’ve had a good experience with their customer service when a few rose plants failed to grow (they were planted late in the season anyway). The cherry tree we got spring of '16 was healthy and even produced one delicious cherry, and the China Rose shrub has tripled in side over the year. The raspberries I got from them years ago did well. Their prices are fair and I don’t hesitate to recommend them as a good solid source for a gardener. But if you are looking for specific rootstocks for trees, absolute best quality, etc. look at someone who only does fruit trees like Cummins.
I will add I consider them a good step above Gurney’s having dealt with them as well. Yes, Jung’s is associated with other companies (Shumway, Zimmerman’s bulbs, maybe Totally Tomatoes too?) but they don’t do gimmicks like the “coupons” Gurney’s is always offering or try to make out some variety to be the best thing since sliced bread.
Gurney’s will make you wish you never went to their website! I was looking for something last year and it took a good 6 months of deleting their constant emails before my account would just send them to spam.
