Anyone growing contorted filbert?

I’m really intrigued by this variety. Do they actually produce a decent amount of edible nuts or are they more decorative?

Not very productive
mostly grown for the ornamental value.

Such a shame they look so beautiful!

I got 2-3 nuts per year on a 4-5 foot tall, 3 + feet wide plant. This was with 2 8 foot regular hazelnut shrubs less than 12 feet away (so it wasn’t a pollination issue)

It was taken out by filbert blight and scale.

I replaced it 2 years ago with the Red Dragon variety. Supposedly blight immune (or at least resistant).

RD is still small, perhaps 8 inches tall.

Lack of pollination is part of the problem I think.
