Hey guys, I came across these seedless hybrid muscadines which is Muscadine bred with Bunch Grapes. Supposedly they have all the resistances of muscadines, but without the seeds and the tough skin. Seems too good to be true.
There are three different varieties that I know of:
RazzMatazz
Oh My!
Oh Yes!
Has anyone tried these? How do they taste? Wondering if they thrive in my 8a humid zone, like regular muscadines do.
I have only tasted Oh My of those 3.. and I like them. Sweet, flavorful and a delight to eat.. especially compared to the tuf skin, seeded varieties.
Oh My dehydrate nicely. Better than rasins.
My Raz filled the trellis about a month ago and now is working on setting and ripening fruit.. It is a real go getter.. seems to be determined to fruit.
Oh my is fruiting well for me this year. It’s 8/10 for me but my other muscadines are 9/10 with better flavor imo. The skin is still tough compared to a grape but zero seeds is nice
@BlackOak-88.. I dont really notice Oh My having tuf skin… in fact the first ones I ate suprised me. The skin was quite tender and has a layer of fruit attached to it which made it quite enjoyable to eat. My wife eats them and has no complaints about the skins.
I have lots of wild muscadines and a named variety “Isons” and they are all quite delicious… but I never just sit down and eat a lot of them.. because of the tuf skins and seeds. You have to separate those and spit them.
I am thinking that Oh Yes is going to be even better than Oh My.
I have seen people on youtube eating Raz and really enjoying the flavor.. they are small grapes, small clusters, but they just keep on producing.
I have a long hot season here and I think Raz is going to be a good add here.
I’ve had Razzmatazz for 3 years. It’s showy but not much more than a novelty to me. I’d pull it but my neighbor likes it. Next to it I have Thomcord which is much more worth the space, that is until PD gets it.
The seedless part is what gets me interested. Regular muscadines are great but the skin and seed combo makes them a bit much for fresh eating. Sounds like Oh My is the one to try first if you can only get one.
