Hey, I had terrible luck with growing cantaloupe the year. (pickle worm totally destroyed my crop) I’ve heard that the pepino “melon” (solanum muricatum) is supposed to taste similar, but not very flavorful if not dead ripe.
Has anyone here tried growing pepino? If so, what is your experience/opinion? Is it worth trying?
The ones I’ve tried haven’t been terrific, just mildly sweet but they weren’t homegrown. CRFG says, “Better quality fruit is moderately sweet, refreshing and juicy with a taste and aroma similar to a combination of cantaloupe and honeydew melon. In poor varieties there can be an unpleasant “soapy” aftertaste.”
