Anyone growing Sicilian Cucuzza gourd this year?

I recently ordered my cucuzza gourd seed for this spring and wondered if anyone else is ordering this delicious vegetable? Fried with onions they will remind you of summer squash. Typically they are served in stew. Many times onions and garlic are sauteed in olive oil and cucuzza are then thrown in after they are peeled. They may be thrown together with red gravy aka tomato sauce. All the typical Italian spices are added such as basil, parsley. Pepper etc. Sometimes pasta or wine or both , Italian sausage etc… They are one of my favorites! Anyone who knows Italian Sicilian foods knows cucuzza. Did I mention no pests bother it? That’s correct squash bugs are a real problem in my area but not for cuccuza! The ends of the vine are edible as well aka tenurumi.

I grew it few years back.I like its flavor, very similar to the flavor of bottle gourd. It is very easy to grow and can grow around 3 feet long, too large for my family to consume.

Clark, Had been considering growing this…after reading your post starting to get hungry. Cucuzzi(a) must be supported on some sort of a trellis??? Glad to know they are resistant to squash bugs. Just may give it a try! Thanks, Randy/GA
