Anyone growing Southland or Carlos Muscadine?

Hey folks. Muscadine question here.

I have the chance to grab some large, 2 gallon muscadines at $10 a piece. Seems like a great deal considering how small the vines were I ordered from Ison’s at around the same price. The varieties are Carlos and Southland. Any of y’all growing them? Worth the small investment? I currently have 15-1-1 and Lane.

I haven’t grown either of them but I do have Lane which is a very good self pollinator. The cost is minor compared to the potential muscadines offer. These might be excellent and others can confirm but I know Black Beauty and Supreme are really good.

I’ve grown both in the past. Carlos is bronze, primarily grown for juice and used for wine making. Southland is a mediocre black self fertile variety that is mostly used for juice and jelly. Ask yourself if you want two muscadines primarily to make juice. If the answer is yes, plant a few.

Decided against buying them. Thank you. I’ll just hold off for better varieties or let my current ones enjoy the space.
