@mamuang
Thank for the diagnosis, spot on!
You are welcome.
I have it, too, on both pears and apples this year. Rainy and warm, perfect combo.
Love Honey Crisp, but don’t love the price. I’m a fan of it. When they are good it’s worth it, but when they are bad it’s junk. I wanted a tree, but the price remain high compare to other trees and I heard it’s difficult to grow in my zone 9. There is a chance a seedling might create something close to it. Yes, from the fruit at the store to some seedlings in the yard. All the short seedlings are probably HC seedlings since they grow slower than other trees. Congrat on your 1st harvest.
I had bitter rot on three of my Reine des Reinettes this year. I threw them out!
It was Airlie’s Redflesh you were interested in, not Red Astrachan as I mistakenly recalled. I’d be glad to send you some if you’re still interested next March.
This Dayton apple had a bit of pink flesh. First time I’ve seen that with this variety.
My wife commented that it was one of the best apples she’s ever had.
I have a graft this year label Arlie Redflesh!!
I truly don’t know if it is true to label.
Do you like this apple?
I have 6 Airlies Redflesh, 3 on B.118 and 3 on M.111, no blooms yet. They’ve been deer browsed a few times but are finally above that height. Hoping for blooms next season.
Pulling some damaged apples for tasting. Also sharing some cards I had made to include with fruit I’m sharing.
Clockwise from the large 11oz golden Delicious in front, chojuro pear, three red delicious, ginger gold, summer banana (smaller gold rusetted), Hubbardston non such, two small green key apples, lastly two old fashioned limbertwig and an empress plum in the center.
I got these small cards that are themed with my new website as I wanted to share fruit with friends and neighbors and include the card. The web site is www.wilbournhouseorchard.com for any who might want to venture there.
.
Dear fruit friends, I will have to get back to you on tasting results, but I wanted to send out this post which will be my last for a space of time. My life has turned upside down. My dad who has been battling cancer for a long time passed away two days ago. He is resting now in his new heavenly home and free from pain.
My orchard still gives me refuge and for that I am thankful. I will be back in a little while.
Regina,
So sorry for the loss of your dad.
So sorry to about you dad passing away. My condolences. It is so hard to lose a parent. Hopefully you will have wonderful memories of he time you had together over the years.
My deep condolences Regina. May your dad rest in peace now…
So sorry.
I grow ARF in California. Here, it’s OK but not spectacular. Both Pink Pearl and Mott’s Pink are superior, and it’s nowhere close to a good Rubaiyat, Christmas Pink or Pink Parfait.
Picture of my first Reinettes des Reinettes. Some quite small others a more normal size. I finished picking them yesterday. Not bad for the tree’s first year. About 30.
So sorry for the loss of your Dad.
Thanks so much everyone. I love being part of our fruit family. It gives me a great deal of joy and also support during difficult times like this.
Virginia Beauty, Honeycrisp, Stayman
I harvested a grand total of 5 Virginia Beauty apples, racoons took a dozen or so. Hopefully they’ll take no more…
First and only Honeycrisp, a franken-limb on an existing tree. It had fallen on it’s own, hopefully a tree-ripened one is better than what we’ve had from the grocery store. Not really a fan…
First Stayman that came loose from a light lift-and-turn. The remaining 20 or so will likely hang for another month or more.
My unknown/mutt cultivar ‘burkittsville red’ that i got from Cummins. Bagged on left, unbagged on right (my bagged apples are always bigger and color up more)
Bagged apple is slightly less calville-style bumpy in bottom.
Its moderately crunchy, bit acid, not tons of sugar yet but not starchy. Very juicy. Will see how they evolve over next few months/weeks
