Apple (fruit only) pictures from your backyard orchards, please

Picked Red Jona Prince to find out it is a late apple!! No wonder it did not come off easily. It is a large, red apple.

Great looking apple! Are you going to store it or it fresh (how does it taste)? Is it Wilton’s cultivar that ACN sells?

I have so many apples ripened now so I will store this one to eat later. Someone gave me the scionwood a couple of years ago so I did not know if it is Wilton or not. It is a large apple for sure.

A few apples that ripened in early October for me.

Hawaii, with Golden Delicious genes, it has a balanced taste that I like.

I picked Redfield late this year, only yesterday. They clung more to the twig even now than expected, but the one pecked by birds I ate was showing signs it was about to go soft.
When this and Claygate both reach mature size, I’ve gotta borrow a cider press & make a gallon or so. In the meantime, it makes a lovely pie.

For red fleshed apples, I have Rubaiyat, Pink Pearl, Pink Parfait, Granadine(?) and Redlove Calypso.

I like Rubaiyat and Pink Parfait. The rest are too tart for me.

Cox Orange Pippin after 7 weeks of refrigerated storage: The sourness is almost gone, and I can definitely taste more sugar now. I personally liked its taste both fresh and after storage.
Unfortunately, the Cox didn’t store well for me this year, but it wasn’t a perfect apple on the tree either - there was some bug damage, summer rot, etc.

I have a Cox’s relative for the first time this year.

Cherry Cox. Still on the tree.

That is a very pretty little apple.

I took Roxbury Russet, Cherry Cox and Rubinette to my office and had 6 coworkers to try them.

Rubinette won for taste and texture. It was the sweetest and the texture is relatively firm

Cox is sweet but its softer texture is a negative.

Roxbury Russet is more tart than the other two. Those who like apples with some tartness liked it. The firm texture is also a plus.

Pink Pearl is wonderful in pies. Retains shape very well, too.

I only have a few pink Pearl but a lot of Rubaiyat.

Rubaiyat is a late apple here. It tastes good fresh ooff the tree and in storage. It lasts at least 2 months in a fridge.

Two of my apple trees are coming out next week. They simply do not get enough sun nor pollination. Here is my one pitiful Gris du Canada for this year. The tree is really slowing down. Being replaced with another sour cherry.

How does it taste?

A lone Sweet 16 picked yesterday after I picked off the main crop September 29th. I wasn’t expecting it be any good but it turned out to be better than what I picked to store. Not mealy and had the cherry taste that some mention. No taste of anise.

the several frostbite i got off my crab last week had a distinct cherry/ vanilla taste. seemed strange coming from a apple but it was very good for its 1st time fruiting. fairly crisp as well.

My few Sweet 16 got swiped by squirrels. Hope the graft will set fruit again next year. It took 4-5 years before it set fruit this year.

Here is the side by side of Roxbury Russet (left) and Golden Russet (right).
Usually my Golden Russet are bigger than this one.
