I don’t think so. Spitz is beautiful with lots of white spots. However if it’s highly flavored, and high brix I might be wrong, but I doubt it. I managed to harvest a decent amount this year so the image is fresh, but photos never quite look like the real thing.
I just brought one up from the fridge and especially on the redder side of the apple the spots should be very prominent. I think it’s something else.
That would be my guess, but not certain. It seems not round enough in shape to be a Grimes but it can’t be ruled out. Hopefully next year I will get plenty of both Grimes and Freyberg so I can compare.
I don’t recognize the new apple… it looks like Gala but is too late to be Gala. Also a bit like Gravenstein but also too late. Taste it and add some comments here, it might help others ID it.
HA, I also thought it looked like Gala, but too late and Gala isn’t always this shiny, especially the overripe ones. Did you polish it, @mamuang, or was it that shiny on the tree?
I look forward to reading more about Grimes Golden vs Freyberg from you. The more read about it, the more indecisive I become. It can be either, at this point.
I did not polish it. It looked like that on the tree, too. They are small apple. Ithink Gala would be medium sized. Also, it ripened around mid Oct.
I ate one today. It tasted a bit sweet and a bit tart but not strongly either way. Texture was crisp but not very. Overall taste, unmemorable. I have not tried Gala for a long time so I can’t recall.
Before I saw the cut pictures, I thought it could be Maigold.
Arguments for Maigold:
Late ripening
Sweet-tart, not very distinct taste
Yellow flesh
Against:
Wrong shape. The pictures I’ve found online seem to show that it is much higher and narrower than your apple.
Is Maigold even available in the US?
Your apple is much more stripe-y than the pictures of Maigold…

I am glad you are helping. I am thankful for everyone’s input.
I think there is Maigold in the US. I got scionwood labeled Maigold. Well, it fruited this year. When I compared my “Maigold” to the pic you posted, my Maigold looks likely to be an imposter !!!
Re. the last 3 pics I posted, it is a russeted apple, not thin-skinned apple.
Scott Smith suggested it’s Razor Russet. I think he probably is correct.
I have Suncrisp so I am pretty sure that is not Suncrisp.
Right, I was talking about the one you thought might be Grimes. I see little difference between Grimes and sports of Golden D other then it ripen a little sooner and has a slightly more complex flavor.
I would have guessed Ashmead’s on your Russet apple,
