Applying Liquid Fish-Emulsion Fertilizer

Someone on another board pointed out W**lmart had gallon fish-fertilizer on clearance for ten bones per bottle yesterday. So I bought some. A lot. I have in the past only used this on tropicals (avocados, mango, guava, and some more challenging trees, or those struggling). I pour about a cup in a 5-gallon bucket, fill it up with water, then dump it around the perimeter of the tree, usually around once a month during spring/summer/fall. Anyone have any other methods of applying this stuff? Any pitfalls here i should be aware of?

I use it on my citrus, 3 tablespoons per gallon which I believe is what was recommend on the bottle…In all honesty I haven’t noticed a big difference maybe I need to be using more…fish emulsion is a good nitrogen boost between regular feedings, but gets used up pretty quickly by the plant…what have your results been?

I used it this year at a rate of one tablespoon per gallon of water. It takes a little more time to use but I haven’t had any negative effects. I was careful not to put on the foliage although I don’t know if it would be a problem if you do.

I use fish emulsion usually as an additive to my foliar sprays. I have not noticed any ill effects from it, although I would think that in susceptible areas it might encourage molds.

It does have an added advantage in that I find the local deer will not eat anything sprayed with fish emulsion until it has washed off in a rain or worn out on its own.

I have used it in the garden on veggies… my wife swears it attracts raccoons because of the fish smell. We stopped using it…:frowning: Something kept digging her plants out.

That was my 1st thought since raccoon traps are baited by fishy smelling things which is why I am careful when and where it is applied. I think last year the fish foliar helped the raccoons find my blackberries.

I use it on my roses and buy it by the case. I fill a MG feeder container
with it, attach it to my irrigation system and run it until the water is clear.
I feed about 10 bushes at a time with one container. It WILL attract raccoons.
I’ve had them dig up bushes trying to find the fish.

Bummer, I would have grabbed a few at that price.
