Are kiwis hard to keep healthy?

I was thinking of growing kiwis, probably fuzzy kiwis. But my husband says that the kiwis farmed in his native Iran are very disease prone and hard to keep healthy. Or maybe he said pest prone. Hard to keep healthy, anyway.

Is this the case for fuzzy kiwis here in the US south? Are they difficult fruits to grow and keep healthy?
