ARS pruners for larger branches?

On recommendation from this group, I bought a pair of ARS pruners. They are great! Love them!

But, I need something for larger branches. And, for branches that are too tall (try to keep trees short but they grow too much during the summer sometimes! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:).

Suggestions for equally good lopers or other branch-cutting utensils? Thanks!!

Bahco and Felco make nice loppers. I avoid anything that has gears/double levers, or feels heavy in one hand, but I make hundreds of cuts a week…

Bahco lopper, but get the ultra-lights. I like the 36" PL 160. However, the 32" is somewhat less fatiguing to use. https://www.amazon.com/Bahco-P160-SL-90-Orchard-Lopper-36-Inch/dp/B00CIRMW2M

Not fond of Felco loppers- they make better hand pruners, IMO, although, even there, I prefer my ARS pair. The problem is the hook on Felco is not curved enough to force the wood back to where the best leverage is.

ARS also makes a nice but shorter lopper, but I had to grind the hook to make it thin enough for accurate fine cutting. It has harder steel than other loppers for blades.

Hadn’t heard of Bahco, so I will definitely check them out!

DC, I have a small garden, but, as a petite person, I need something that’s sharp and light!

Alan, thank you for the link. Those loppers look amazing. They are on my purchase list!!

I have the Corona 36" and like it very much. It’s also cheaper.

I find using my nice razor sharp pruning saw ends with less damage around the cut and is practically as fast as loppers. For tall / long branches, sometimes I will use loppers, but leave 6" to 12", then go back with the saw and make that nice clean cut that leaves the bark tight to the wood.
