Love all the new apples coming to market, but would also love to see similar efforts on plums and other fruits too. But that won’t happen until more stores switch to focusing on brand names instead of ‘Black Plum’ and ‘Red Plum’. Anyway, these apples do look good…

Most of the work on plums is on plum hybrids, and in that area, there are many.
These are undoubtedly patented club varieties and will not be available as trees for people to plant.
Just ate one of these from the store. Big, bland, and crunchy with a tiny bit of cherry flavor.

There’s already a massive diversity of plums available. However, most plums are highly perishable so that limits greater representation in grocery stores. A lot of marketing would be required to build public familiarity for each variety to get it sold while in season. It’s not like apples where the same varieties can be sold year round which allows buyers to become very familiar with the available selections.
