Asian persimmon - ichi's rootsock?

Hi All,

Is there a way to tell what rootstock is? Got a summer shipment from Starkbro’s (asian persimmon - ichi), the scion is dry out, but rootstock seems alive, (saw a lot of suckers below graft union) Question: what rootstock this is? Any use for this rootstock? Is it worth keeping?

Thanks

Email Stark. They have always identified rootstock for me. My bet is D. lotus.

My 7 years old Ichi from Starkbros and the rootstock is D. Virginiana (American persimmon). You can let it grows and graft some hardy Asian hybrids like Rossyanka or Casandra. You can buy the scion woods from England Orchard in early March 2016.

Its also not hard to identify the rootstock by the leaves. Its either kaki, virginiana, or lotos, Google for pictures.

Thank you all for the answer. Should I remove the dry out scion to promote rootstock growth?

Thanks

Sure. Just cut off the dead wood.
