Asian Persimmon Sprouts in Faraway Flower Bed

I have persimmon sprouts coming back over and over in a flower bed 35 feet from old Giboshi. If I kill the small sprouts with a tiny amount of Roundup what are odds that would damage the mother tree?

35 ft. Is a long way for spouts to come up from even a big old persimmon. I have cut some old one ft. Diameter male trees
Most of the sprouts come up 5- 15 ft. From the tree.
While 35 ft. Is certainly possible.
It could be from a seed?
.
If your sprout is from the giboshi ( or any chance it’s from there).
The way I understand how glyphosate works on perennials is that it goes down and kills the root.
So… if they are connected, and you are successful at killing that root , it could likely kill or severely damage your giboshi .
I would suggest other methods . ie. dig a little ,cut sprout as low as possible.
Repeating cutting any sprouts multiple ( many ) times per season .
Or cut sprouts low and cover with something like black plastic plus mulch .
Or graft a good persimmon on that sprout ! . !
That seems best .

I had sprouts come up ~25ft from a persimmon that was only about 8x8 ft in size. I know they were root sprouts, not seedlings. My persimmon have no seeds. And there were sprouts at 8-12 ft in many directions. I just kept digging them out. They weren’t much of an issue.

35ft on a big tree, sure and maybe further.

I would not risk putting Roundup on them. I am planning to try this product to deal with sprouts from my persimmon trees. Expensive, but I plan to cut them and paint the stump, should go a long ways.

My neighbor successfully used a growth regulator to control root suckers yards away from the base of a CA pepper tree. I don’t know which brand.

I agree with fruitnut’s assessment of the herbicide approach.
