Asiminia pollination

Anyone have experience of pollinating Asiminia. Are they pollinated by flies?

Hi! Yes they are polinated by flies and ants. I put the rest of my daily juice below them and even spread some sugar below and on top of flowers…

Hand pollinate with a small paint brush works the best to ensure a heavy crops. I get 150 plus pounds off my 4 trees yearly.

I’ll try that as well

I only have one tree of flowering age, so I swap pollen with a friend.

This is my first year holding the paintbrush. Thanks social distancing. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Anyway. Apparently the male and female parts of each flower mature on different days, so it’s good to know what the mature bits look like.

I noticed last year that mine were covered with gnats rather than flies, and seemed to set a bumper crop.

Yes the flies are really gnats. I never have hand pollinated and always get a huge set from my trees.

I still have a tree that gets covered with flowers each year and yet it never fruits for me. Its my biggest tree, its easily 20 feet tall and it has never grown a single fruit.

I have 6 more trees (all fruiting) on my little 0.125 acre lot.

This year I will attempt the paintbrush…

I have several young trees, three that bloomed, and have maybe 2 fruit total. I never thought the day would come when I’d wish for more gnats in my life.

Thanks for the very informative video. Now I know what to do. I have one tree , not sure if it can self pollinate or not but I’ll give it a try.
Thanks again.

If you have one tree and variety is not self fertile then i think hand pollination will not work, its best to get from someone fresh pollen and than pollinate female flowers on your tree.
I have tried to hand pollinate female flowers with pollen from same tree and i didn’t had fruits that year on that tree (had small clusters of fruits but all fallen off after some time).
