Of all of the plums/pluots that I grow, this is my favorite. I’ve been
asked to post pics, and this is the tree ready to be picked. As you
can see, this tree is loaded, as usual. This tree is 11 years old and has
been bullet proof for me. It ALWAYS produces, even with spring freezes.
I’ve grown just about all of the AU varieties, and IMHO, this is the best
one, hands down. This is a sweet plum and extremely flavorful
Ray.
Can you describe the taste? I got a one year old graft but no fruit yet.
nice. do you have to spray this plum?
Tony,
That’s hard to do. It’s a firm, crunchy plum, juicy, sweet, but not
overly sweet, no tartness, but full of flavor. I can’t eat just one,
I usually eat a dozen at a time. That’s how much I like this plum.
Yes, I spray once at petal fall, and again at shuck split.
I also spray the trunk and lower limbs in August for borers.
It is also a very pretty tree. Well done!
Well done Ray. Thanks for posting.
Ray, do you grow Dapple Dandy or Flavor King pluots? I recently grafted those here in zone 7 NC and am wondering how your Rubrum compares. Your tree looks fantastic!
No, I don’t grow either one of those.

Hi Ray @rayrose
How do you compare Rubrum plum and AU producer plum? Especially about fruit quality. Thank you. Vincent
There’s really no comparison. It’s like comparing Raquel Welch to
Ma Kettle.
