Looks to have some C. crenata ancestry
My friend Andy at SpringTree planted 30+ chestnuts 30 years ago from Auburn University’s 3 releases (Cropper, Homestead, Leader). That is, his trees are all seedlings of those three. They are some of the most beautiful chestnuts ive ever seen! Excited to grow them this year. Mike Nave, a chestnut expert, says the Auburn university trees are the best Chinese chestnut genetics we have ever gotten on our continent.
