Autumn Olives - Later than normal

A couple of autumn berries were later than normal this year. The berries are large on these. Kansas weather is not a respecter of late fruit! I suspect the birds will love these! It’s about 30 degrees currently and ice raining on and off. Thankful for the moisture though I do hope it will warm up a few degrees and melt.

Given it’s native range, true Autumn Olive (Elaeagnus umbellata) fruit should have little if any problems with Kansas weather. Sometimes other species of Silverberry (Elaeagnus) are sold as Autumn Olive.

Those are good size berries. What are the dimensions?

Richard,
Some are the size of small peas. The soil influences fruit size there I think because the pears are very large in that area. It’s possible there could be underground water at that location. I have seen water standing On the ground close to that location.

Those I’ve seen down here have fruits about 0.3" to 0.4" diameter when ripe. I’m wondering if @LarryGene is growing this crop?
