Avocado grafting

I don’t see much discussion of avocado on here, but does anyone have experience grafting avocado and/or know a source of scion wood?

I apparently have some avocado loving squirrels in my neighborhood because I have over 20 avocado seedlings popping up all over my yard. Thought it might be fun to use them for grafting.

There’s a pretty well established tree in my yard that probably got there the same way. I like the way they look even though that one never fruits.

Also, anyone happen to know what variety is grown seemingly everywhere in central America that has enormous fruit? I thought they tasted a bit bland, but was always curious what type they were.

I did one for kicks tried a veneer graft, it failed. Then the next season did a simple cleft graft that took.

Good to know. Do you know any sources of scion wood?

This guy out of Florida has a ton of videos on grafting with updates. Very good quality of videos and closeups.

I grafted from a friends hass avocado.

My first avocado grafts, starting with a failure, one that’s still trying to decide whether to succeed or not, and two that I’m hoping are going to be successful. These are “Oro Negro” and an unknown cultivar on my own seedling rootstocks.
