Baby Jujube Rootstock Coming Up

I grew some sour jujube from seeds last year. They were very small. Then I just put them in the pot, stored in garage over winter. I moved them outside about two weeks ago.

Today when I checked on them, almost all of them have put out new growth. I think normal jujube bud out much later. I plan to plant them in the field and get ready to graft them next spring or so.

Nice work!

They look very thorny. It would be interesting to what happened if you grew some out.

The sour jujube and most wild jujube are thorny when young. A lot other jujube trees are also thorny.

There seems to be a fairly wide variety of thorniness with the named varieties I’ve seen.
