Backyard Orchards, chronicling, musing and more

I’m not removing it yet. This is the nectarine I grafted a successful Snow Queen.

If you bag it, it my survive till ripe, and the cracks become just a cosmetic defect. I had that happen to many Heavenly White nectarines before, and they were perfect to eat.

Emeruade never cracked with me before, what kind of soil do you have?

All nects on that little tree were bagged. With so much rain for over a month, brown rot got in the bags so I took bags off for better air ventilation.

It is interesting growing season this year.

@Ahmad
I have amended the soil with some compost. There are about3-4” of good soil on the surface. Below that is like subsoil that the builder dumped on to build up the ground and put my house on.

It is the same soil for all other fruit trees. Unfortunately, there are no other peach or nectarine trees that set fruit this year to compare.
This 4’ tree has a few fruit of Arctic Glo, Emeraude and Zephyr.

So far, only One of two Emeraude is cracking. Arctic Glo does not crack but got the most brown rot. Zephyr is still small fruit and shows no damage yet.

My soil is rocky but my fruit trees are doing very good to say the least. The more you feed them, are super looking they are more vulnerable to diseases.
I don’t feed them, but don’t have enough trees to pollinate them, don’t spray them, don’t see any diseases either.

I know you grow citrus, figs, persimmons, etc.

Do you grow any peaches, nectarines, plums and cherries? If you do, How do they do for you?

Plums, pears Asian and euro, peaches, paws, pluots. All plums were old, died, never replaced them,(2003). My pluots are very pretty trees, Asian pears are nice big tree’s, pluots sionwood from Tony, nice looking big trees, 4 or 5 varieties. Btw, Tippy bought 5 3lb bags Rainears cherrys, I am good for the years. Thanks you for not growing my own cherries.

Asian pear, 5different varieties, next to a paw paw tree.

Your peach trees produce well without any spray?

I am going move to be your neighbor, Bob

Sounds great, got 2 extra lots, come ahead, would be nice then I know that I don’t have to grow nothing.

Talking about help, My potted Rojo Brillante looks promising after following your and @PharmerDrewee ’s advice.

In added the clay thing Andrew suggested and fed the tree with micronutriens.

So far, there are still 7 fruit on the tree.

None of them may hang on to ripening but they have hung on longer than they did the past two years.

I might have been looking at the wrong photo. The last Plum group could be.

The third picture. The first&second are Lavinia

I think this plum is spelled Lavina.

Lavinia is a name of a woman.

Auto spell likes woman’s name better, always pops up Lavinia

I like Lavina and Laroda. When I removed my multi grafted Shiro, there were the two plums I rescued from that tree.

The flavor of Lavina is rather unique. Feb freeze wiped out my Lavina flowers (and other plums/pluots). Only Euro plums have survived and set fruit like crazy.

I love the fragrance and the shape of your night flower. I never can remember the name.

The name is Epiphyllum oxypetalum. It only bloom few hours at night but is big and fragrant.
Lavina is very reliable here, bears fruits every year.lot of fruits.

Night blooming cereus. They can be white as well. Very beautiful.
