Some info on the forum on this topic but I haven’t seen this be specifically asked: What is everyone’s experience buying ball and burlapped fruit trees?
Where they close to bearing age?
Did they die?
Where they as about a healthy as bare root and potted tree?
Any advantages over potted/bare root?
Thank you for any feedback, I appreciate your time and opinions.
Bought some 8 foot (2 b&b bartletts and 2 b&b golden delicious) from a local nursery on sale for $20 several years ago. I’ve also bought several b&b cherry trees locally, though nowhere near as big as the first 4. I’ve had good luck with them. IMO they are way better than bare root.
As a side note. Those 8 foot b&b trees had massive balls and weighed a ton. Not easy to tote around. I dug the hole and shoved it off the trailer into the hole.
@Robert that’s very interesting, how are these trees still doing? Are they still going strong? Any issues with anchoring or drought stress etc.? Yes I can attest to how heavy those ball and burlap trees can get!
Yes, they are all doing great and much bigger. They never had any problems and all are fruiting now. Sadly that nursery never got any more of those 8 foot b&b fruit trees after that.
