Looks like a more normal amount of fruit set after that ridiculous crop last year. I noticed a significant abscission of fruitlets a couple weeks ago, and was worried it might drop everything, but looks like all the ones that remain are starting to swell more now.
After last year’s absurd crop, it’s no surprise the squirrels planted dozens of them all over my yard. These things really are “weedy” here, as is stated in Trees of Seattle.
The tree has been showing some drought stress and has been dropping most of the nuts prematurely. Just a small crop holding like this:
