oh you wait for frost. i was thinking 50s-40s. we havent had projected frost for a while now. i saw a long stretch of 50+ overnight temps and was thinking that would be ok to move citrus outside and not worry about them dropping fruitlets or leaves.
last fall i screwed up and they got hit by a light frost that defoliated my pomegranate but didn’t even bother my citrus surprisingly. my Minneola is the most frost sensitive, yet it came out fine.
going to get down to 30 tom. night. it got down to 24f 3 springs ago on june 17th. my indian painted mountain corn was up 1.5in. and all survived.
well im going to put my eureka, persian and 3 satsumas outside when its >50f and hope they dont defoliate or drop fruitlets. will report back ![]()
should be ok. mine are on my south facing deck and the garage somewhat protects from the west winds. good luck!
one of my citrus trunks looks like this from the graft. can i correct it slowly?
also ive still got all of my citrus attached to the thin metal stakes that they ship with for stability as they are fairly tall with skinny trunks. when should one remove or ween them off of the steaks?
i have to prune my citrus for shape and size, is there a best time for doing this? you really dont want to cut off any fruit so i would assume after harvest but before new growth/flowering. this could be hard to time with long hanging varieties or lemons/limes that might flower more than once a year.
i usually prune my potted citrus in late feb./ early march before they start putting out new growth.
i have to time it better. all of mine have flowered and set fruit already.
my satsuma is. i had to cut back my mineola to the bottom branch at 2ft. it was getting way too big to move.. it has already put on over a foot of new growth. going to train it to grow out instead of up..
