Hey folks. I’m out working in the back this morning and there’s one thing I cannot beat: Bermuda. I’m tired of pulling it and I’m not up to spraying to kill it for personal reasons. Should I worry about its impact on my blackberries? I gave up trying to keep a nice, clean ring around the trees. The trees I’m not too worried about though. I just water/fertilize a bit more and chop the grass down for mulch. Does this approach work for blackberries? I’m worried about their shallow roots.
i ahve managed to kill bermuda without resorting to chemicals, but i think this depends on the size of patch of grass you’re trying to dispose of. Bermuda is a sun-worshipper,and will get leggy with flimsy growth, and eventually die if covered with cardboard weighted down with concrete pavers. The trick is to snip off any subsequent growth peering out from the crevices between boards, and periphery of the boards, as soon as they emerge. Of course, the process may take half a year or longer, depending on size and age of patch, and depending on climate, and a sprawling field of bermuda will be extremely difficult to annihilate.
I just apply a heavy layer of mulch between the blackberries. It seems to keep the grass down and the blackberries still will spread out up through the mulch
I hate bermuda grass. I control it with cardboard and leaves but it seems to not really go away.
Why not drink it?Here’s an article,I just saw. bb
