I’m hooked on apples with homemade peanut butter and I thought I’d ask this knowledgeable group - what is your favorite apple to eat with PB? So far, honey crisp is my favorite store-bought apple with PB, I haven’t been able to try anything out of the ordinary.
I do not make that much of a distinction between my apple varieties when I’m enjoying the fruit with peanut butter but that is because the peanut butter is what I am focused on. I used to eat a LOT of apples and PB, and the flavor of the best tasting peanut butter was the most important part to me.

I have a farmers market across the street from my workplace and there is a gentleman that makes his own PB and sells it by the jar. It is divine! I will never eat grocery store PB again thats for sure.
Just a few days ago I gave the oldest grand daughter side eye because she slathered a Pink Lady apple with Peanut butter.
I’m big on eating PB on pears. The extra juice is a plus for me.
yeah I tried that, not a good combo at all! I prefer tart apples to eat fresh and love Pink Lady, but not good with PB
Plain apples are OK if they are sweet. The more tart the apple the more peanut butter goes on. And here I thought that was a combination I was the only one who did it. I need to let the nay sayers know it is a thing. We have several apple orchards in our area. Different apple varieties at different times of the year, but most of them are eaten along with peanut butter.
My other choice is with cheese, so what is your favorite cheese to eat with which apples?
I have done this! Put roasted peanuts in the food processor. You can add salt to taste and honey if you want it sweetened. Very easy.
Spanish sheep cheeses like Manchego and Zamorano! Whatever apples the grocery store has that are decent, usually Gala or Fuji. I’m just not that picky with the apples.
I am pretty boring and don’t have a big cheese variety source close-by. so extra sharp cheddar is my cheese of choice.
Cox’s Orange Pippin works really well for this, the aromatic almost nutty quality it has pairs nicely with peanut butter. Hard to find in stores but worth it if you come across one at a farmers market.
We used to have a great grocery store nearby that had nut grinding machines where you could make your own peanut butter or almond butter. That one sold out to a (now nationally recognizable) company whose name is jokingly referred to as taking one’s entire paycheck, so unfortunately they have been long gone. There’s still a health food store with those sort of machines, although I cannot say that their peanut butter was any better than the “all natural” already ground one that I buy locally at a chain grocery. On a recent trip further north in this state I was in a grocery store whose location count has been shrinking for decades as other, larger chains encroach on their former territory, and I was pleasantly surprised to see this:
