Best Asian Pear crop so far in 20 years

Anybody got other bumper crops of asian pears this year ??

This tree started my passion for Asian Pears, called Shinseiki. Crisp, juicy, fruity sweetness.

I realised a few years later its not a rare variety but quite common worldwide. Well 20 years ago in the UK nobody was growing asian pears. I do not know the rootstock, but its a pyrus type.

We did not get any June drop this year.

Every 2 years I prune all the vertical growth down (pollard), but leave any shoots that are growing sideways or drooping. These branches carry the fruit, and also provide shelter for us to sit under, for protection from the intense sun in summer.

Do not be concerned about the leaves, as its a common occurrence with us. Its called Chlorosis and its we apply Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) through the soil in late winter, so its washes in during the spring rains.

Nice! The pears of unknown variety at my in-laws were absolutely loaded this year. Probably about as heavy as yours. Unfortunately, a family of bears decided to harvest before we did. Only ended up getting a few dozen.

Hope you can beat the critters to them!

I’d say it is slightly lower yield with Raja

And lower yield with Hardy / Korean Giant

My Shinseiki tree has its first crop this year of five or so pears. Assuming they weren’t destroyed overnight/this afternoon. Yoinashi has its first crop as well with like thirty. The latter is on Betulifolia while the former is on an unspecified “dwarf” rootstock from Stark Bros.

That’s awesome; I love Asian pears and this year I got a record set but even after much thinning they are only the size of golf balls.
