Best Mandoline for Apples?

I have been slicing apples with my kitchen knife with fair success but have leftover pieces I couldn’t cut safely or got the thickness uneven for dehydrating. So I got cheap one by Prep Solutions at Walmart to see what was what as I have never used one before.

The blade is loose enough that it makes a slight wedge. Although not as wedged as my knife attempts. The hand guard has four metal wire prongs that pierce the fruit to hold it steady. I don’t want holes in my fruit and the blade eventually hits them.

After reading all various best of reviews from well known kitchen gadgets reviewers and then reading the negative reviews on Amazon, I am still undecided what would be the best for big apples like Staymans.

Any suggestions?

Would the apple master type tools cut a thin enough slice for you?

I have the Classic French Mandolin from Lee Valley. It’s pricey, but I’ve had mine 15-20 years and it’s still sharp. You can use the guard or choose not to, and the guard doesn’t penetrate the food very deep.
