'Big Jim' loquat

‘Big Jim’ loquat ripening up right now:

Looks pretty. I’m not familier with them. What do they taste like? Or closest to?

Is that what that is?? I’ve seen a couple of these on my neighborhood and wondered what the hell they are. Thank you for solving a mystery.

Tropical, citrusy, juicy, pretty tart if picked a bit early, but sweet if picked at the right time.

I ate loquat only once but liked it a lot. Is the Big Jim cultivar self fertile or you use Champaigne to pollinate it?
I know they won’t work in my zone 7A/7B but I might try to grow them in pots in a winter garden. The fruit of Big Jim is really huge, the ones I ate were way smaller

I used to have one. Fire blight killed it.

I recently discovered that tea can be made from the tender leaves. Might need to give it a try this spring.
