Black currant run-off?

Black currants are just starting to ripen here (zone 4) but a huge portion of my berries are turning milky-pink/beige and falling off. I get a bit of this happening every year, but this year it looks like I might lose 3/4 of the entire harvest. I’m not sure what the problem is. It has been extremely hot and dry this year, and weird weather fluctuations between super hot/humid and cool/wet. Attaching some pics. The plants seem healthy enough though. Curious if anyone has experience this before. I’m growing Ben Nevis.

How hot is it getting? Maybe too hot and they would rather be in more shade…

im in the same zone as you in n. Maine and I’ve never seen that. what kind of soil are they in? its been very wet and muggy here with a few days hitting the low 90’s F. they love my clay soil. only issue ive had is with aphids. i grow Tiben.

@DroppingFruit low 90s. They might be too hot yeah, though they’ve been in the ground for 5 years and have thrived in full sun. They produce buckets of currants every year, too much to use honestly.

@steveb4 Clay soil here too, though that’s never been a problem for them, they grow like weeds.

I cut a dozen berries open to see if there were worms inside but nope. Not a pollenation issue either as the seeds were fully formed. I’m wondering if it’s just a lack of water and they’re dropping fruit as a result.
