i agree on the crandal but it tastes more like a concord grape than R.nigrum. do you grow belaruskaja? if you do i may swap a cutting or 2 with you next spring.
Yeah, i have a big bush, I dont harvest the berries much because I like others better for size and ease of picking, but fresh its the most palatable I think. Mostly I freeze my BC for use later in preserves, pies and smoothies
No, but that should change this year. Here’s one of the Tahsis at my house:
Closeup of Tahsis:
Blackcomb (the other variety that I added at the same time as Tahsis):
This plant is smaller than most of the Tahsis, but I think I have a good sized Blackcomb at one of the rentals. Even this one has some fruit on it, so maybe I’ll get to try both this year.
The last time I tried to root black currants inside during the spring (with wood from you I think) I had a 0% success rate. So, the method that works for me for figs didn’t work so well for currants. In the past, I stuck them in the soil in the fall (wherever I wanted a new bush) and they would root over the winter and leaf out in the spring. Maybe I should have done the same thing in the spring, rather than trying to root it indoors.
Sticking them in late fall gives me the best success with most cuttings not just currant. ive had bad luck trying to root them in summer. they push growth before putting down roots.
