New here. We have 6 apple trees. 1 Dutchess of Oldenburg , 2 red delicious and three golden delicious. I cut open a few of the red delicious and they were black in the center. Any ideas?`

Probably mold. Some varieties are more susceptible than others, and it often happens when the calyx didn’t completely close when the apple was forming. I will usually just cut away the center and use the apple regardless, never had any problems with that. If it’s worms or bugs, you’ll usually see a hole and some brown/black frass.

That looks like a worm entered through the calyx (the bottom). It is probably a codling moth, they are extremely common.
Cut open several red and golden delicious today and they were all fine so idk
