I saw earlier in the summer a tree with green balls on them that looked like Black Walnuts. But the bark threw me off as it looked alligator-like, like an American Persimmon…
Black Walnut #1 ?alligator like bark?:
American Persimmon a mile nearby in the park for comparison:
Black Walnut #2? … This is what i would think Black Walnut bark looks like. A more “elongated diamonds”-like bark:
Are those both Black Walnuts, but different varieties?
I have video somewhere of the leaves and fruit hanging on the branches earlier in the summer if that helps identify.
Update, here is video of the 1st tree:

I have a couple older black walnut trees with chunky bark, somewhat similar to your photo. Definitely distinct from the typical diamond cross cross pattern. Its been a while since I looked at them so cant remember for sure (since spring when i tapped for making surup). I can try and take a photo.
I’m unsure if the bark style is just an age thing, or genetic, or something else. I’m also curious, if anyone knows!

It is a different bark pattern but appears to be eastern black walnut. My mother owns property with a few native black walnuts one of which has silver bark similar to Juglans Regia. The bark variation is interesting.
