Black Walnut strange husk ? not seen before

Black Walnut strange husk ? not seen before.

There are 3 of these on my tree, that has finally fruited after about 15 years from growing from seed. There are no more nuts growing.

Any ideas what causes it, and better still what can I do for next year.

Were the insides ok?

The insides look ok, obviously not fully ripe. But I had to cut them down, as squirrels already taking my other walnuts. Not checked the knernal

Of the 3 nuts, one nut is looking normal (which is the top nut, in the first mage). The other 2 look like they started growing, maybe a drought for a couple of weeks and then started regrowing agin.

I wonder if that’s a weather damage-induced lesion, like ‘frost rings’ on apples? Did you have a freeze after bloom period? Or, perhaps, a severe drought stretch followed by adequate rainfall?
