I only got 6-8 berries, but they were fantastic. What you see is this years growth.
my Colombia star i planted in the fall last year took off like that over the summer. now if i can successfully over winter them.
From Hobby Fruit Growers–
“Does anyone else here grow the KIOWA Blackberry? They are so prolific, sweet, and huge! I think I harvested more than 300 pound from 3 bushes this year.”
I did the math. The best that U of Ark did with them they were 10g per berry.
That would mean over 13,000 berries from 3 plants.
Or…somewhere around 36 gallons of berries.
Or in my math… Seven 5 gallon buckets of berries.
I think this person is low key flexing… or maybe they have 20 foot spacing on 3 plants and their climate is ideal. Maybe.
My kids would say “that’s sus”
I feel that there is some characteristic in that picture that is suspect. I cannot put my finger on what it is that my unconscious is keying in on, but I feel that there has been some editing to that image to increase the apparent size of those fruit.
This is a pretty honest example… with a better climate than mine. I think someone who irrigated or got alot of rain could up the size nicely for a good picture… but not so much flavor.
A nursery that i wont name took the Stark Bros. pic and did a good job with editing to make folks want to buy their plants.

Damn! wish they would grow here.
That person from Wyoming posted a few weeks ago on one of the bramble groups…they are growing just about all of the U of Ark blackberries… at the cost of about 2 bales of hay per plant. I think they are in the very top of Wyoming …i know u say u are colder but maybe worth a try?
ive tried protecting p.a freedom blackberries here and failed because they were erect and broke when trying to bend them. i can only cover trailing varieties here. even semi erect are too much work to train to lay down. i get enough from my nelsons that its not worth trying to train non hardy erect varieties to protect them.
Have you tried making a fig pop onto a section of the canes? Like this but on a leaf node.
Basically air layering it
is this a new variety?
but wow, seriously, FORTY FIVE DOLLARS??
Yes from what I’ve read. The only consumer supplier is Gurney’s and they got the license for it either just this year or last. Can’t recall what I’ve read
Yep. However i wouldnt want to grow it in my area/zone etc… by late Oct…Nov… im not wanting any more reds (if they will even ripen). Some yellows are welcome though. Save your money and buy Crimson Treasure for $7.50.
$45 per plant… is too much. But i just paid $60 each for some fruit trees. So i reckon there is a sucker born every minute like they say.
It’s me… I’m the sucker… but they said Crimson night would ripen in September for me. They’ve been ripening since early August but my plants are fed throughout the season and aren’t starved so they often have extra energy.
I suspect Crimson Blush would fruit in the early summer with a primocane crop in the early fall?
Gurneys says:
Blooms: Mid Spring, Late Spring, Early Summer, Mid Summer, Late Summer, All Summer, Fall
So you should get fruit from the floricane crop as well.
I have it preordered and it looks like my area shipping is 2/17/2025 from my order.
I’ll let ya’ll know how it goes ![]()
I just got a dead kokanee from them lol
Did anyone else on here order the Honey Jewel or Ruby Jewel rasps?
Looks like i was wrong before thinking they were something else renamed. They are a new release by Innovative Organic Nursery (ION). Looks like they might be releasing a new blackberry also…
Looking forward to trying something new.
I’m still picking Caroline, Fall Gold, and every once in a while a Double Gold here in Dallas. Every one of my Fall Gold raspberries tastes completely bland and tasteless
I’m assuming it’s because they’re growing in a small container instead of the ground
I may just be the time right now. All of mine have begun tasting bland too now. It may be the weather they’re reacting to.
In Colorado, none of mine except polka and Caroline tasted okay. Here in Washington, without the severe winds and hail, they’ve tasted amazing this summer. When fall came, they begun tasting bad again but they are still producing.
Mine are all in containers as well. 19 inch deep, 21 inch wide
