Bloom time of Flavor King vs Flavor Supreme question

Hi,

I have Flavor King and Supreme both planted spring 2016 in containers and store in attached unheated garage in Dec - Feb. During these months, I left garage door open a little to keep the indoor temperature about 10-15 degree higher than outdoor. Indoor temperature range is 38F-55F

I noticed the Flavor Supreme bloom earlier than King, which is unexpected. Flavor King has 400 hours or less, Flavor Supreme has 800 hours or less chill requirement. Isn’t the high chill variety should bloom later than the low chill one? Or my thinking is completely wrong?

Thanks

Left is King, Right is Supreme. Zone 7b.

FS is supposed to be earlier than FK both bloom and ripening dates wise.

Yes my FS will bloom before FK as well. As Vinod said, FS is one of the earliest ripening pluots.

Same here. Chill hrs are somewhat correlated to bloom time. But there are many exceptions. This is one of them.

I think Vinod’s picture is a perfect representation of Flavor King vs Flavor Supreme. Flavor supreme is a more vigorous grower than Flavor King and blooms earlier which as perfectly depicted in this picture. But after both have bloomed and set fruit the Flavor King will probably have twice as many fruit on it compared to Flavor Supreme.

One thing for sure though, they are both dynamite pieces of fruit.

You are absolutely right. I thinned FK hard last year over two months. It still over set and the fruit was insipid compared to the properly thinned fruit the year before.

FS set 4 fruits last year and it grew very vigorously.
