I just saw a classified ad for someone that gets bags like in the photo below every week as part of some kind of weekly delivered food program and wants to give the bags away for free instead of throwing them away. Do you all think they could be useful for winter protection for plants? They reminded me of a picture that Scott shared of how he used to protect his figs. I’m wondering if there might be a reasonable way to cut them open and attach the flat pieces to each other to make a giant bag, big enough to cover a 6’ tall by 6’ diameter fig or something like that.
Those bags are designed to keep cold IN with the bubble wrap being the insulation and the Mylar coating reflecting heat coming in from the environment.
Inverting them wont keep much additional heat in (trees don’t produce heat) but it will allow for better absorption of heat from the sun during the day. On the other hand having the foil side out will likely better stabilize the temperature of the tree as it wont heat up as much during the day when the sun is out.
