Brandywine Raspberry Does Not Set Fruits

I have a Brandywine raspberry in ground for 3 years now. It never sets any fruits. The others (heritage, caronline and shortcake) planted at the same time in the same bed all have fruited well.

The Brandywine sent really long canes, like 10 ft long, but has never produced any fruits. Is this normal? Is there anything that I can do to help it fruit? I am thinking to remove it.

Do they bloom? is the bloom unusually early or late?

The brandywine has never bloomed. It just keeps growing.
I pinched the tips of the canes this year, but that did not help. The canes still keep going.

So to be clear you don’t cut off the canes that grew last year? It’s biennial don’t bloom on this year’s canes, only last years.

As long as your not cutting down all your canes in the fall, they should be blooming in the spring.

Thanks!
The current 3 canes are new growth this spring. That explains it.
But I think I had canes from before dec 2018. They did not produce any fruits in 2019. Just kept growing. That is why I cut them all out in fall 2019. Hoping the new canes will produce some fruits. Now I have better idea. I will keep the current 3 canes until next summer. Let’s see if they can give me something.

Another thing that can really kill any fruit (literally) is a late frost once the leaves/blossoms form, a heat wave above 90, then finally, BUGS. I am just starting my gardening, and I check my plants every night. Especially on warm nights, I get the various Asian/oriental beetles that come and chew up leaves and love blossoms. Since I just started this year, I also have plants that weren’t properly set to my season. I received one plant as a dormant bare root in June, when the plant from my locaL garden center already had fruit that were developing. Granted, some blossoms were lost to the heat, some to bugs, but at the moment I still have fruit being set and developing on the florocane.

I did some research and found this article. It’s very helpful. I never learned how to prune Brandywine properly. Now I know.

Especially the following paragraph:
figure-7-2595ad75788cd2

Black and purple raspberries require summer topping throughout the summer in addition to floricane removal. Black and purple raspberries should be topped at 36 inches, removing 3 to 4 inches of new growth (Figure 7.2). Do this two to three times during the season to top all of the canes as they grow. Topping encourages the development of lateral (fruiting) branches and increases the strength of the cane.
