Buddy Tape vs 3M parafilm

I know fall is not even here yet, but I am getting started early. Got my buddy tape this morning. I have 3M as well, but I find Buddy Tape far more superior. It doesn’t snap off as much as 3M and holds up better.

@Dollie

I wrap my scion in parafilm before I make the graft… example below.

Once the graft is done… i then wrap the graft union area with a couple layers of parafilm… then I finish that off by wrapping the graft union area with a couple layers of black rubber electrical tape. It is very sticky and stretches great… great hold.

I have never used buddy tape.

The only thing I don’t like about Buddy Tape is I didn’t get it sooner! So nice and smooth to work with I really love it. Especially after using the regular grafting tape.

I use the cheapest grafting tape on amazon and have had better results. buddy tape is over rated. I can buy 10 years supply with buddy tape’s price. I also noticed it buddy tape does not decompose right and grafts seem to have toxicity for a couple of years after grafting.

i appreciate seeing the use of electrical tape. i read a lot about grafting and never saw mention of electrical tape. i was an electrician and always thought it be ideal. thx!

@usc33 … be sure you get one of the rubber electrical tapes.

Vinal just does not stretch and hold like rubber.

I cant find rubber tape anywhere in my county… but at a Lowe’s over in the next county I can find this brand. It is rubber and works very well.

I primarily use Buddy Tape. It sticks to itself, and if I don’t get carried away, growth breaks it before it can girdle. If I do get carried away a simple straight cut lets it overcome my overzealousness.

I’ll say as a beginner I had excellent luck with the buddy tape. Wrapped the graft really well and then the scion itself. Like @Dollie the buds seemed to have no problem breaking through nor did it girdle.

Well worth the money rather than messing with something like electrical tape or used bags that I have to cut off later. I don’t do enough grafts that the volume matters so a roll should last me a handful of years.

As a first time grafter this year, I used these 2 products. I wrapped the graft in the parafilm first and then wrapped the Temflex over the parafilm.
